Indonesia Visa for Your Komodo Trip: VOA, e-VOA & Requirements 2026

Most visitors need Indonesia’s Visa on Arrival for a Komodo trip: IDR 500,000 (~$32), 30 days, extendable once — available to 90+ nationalities including the UK, EU, US, Canada and Australia. Apply online as an e-VOA before flying, or buy it at Bali/Jakarta airport counters. ASEAN passport holders enter visa-free. Here’s the ten-minute version of everything that matters.

e-VOA Online: The 10-Minute Walkthrough

The electronic VOA at Indonesia’s official immigration portal (evisa.imigrasi.go.id) is the queue-skipping move:

  1. Create an account with your email
  2. Upload passport photo page + a passport-style photo
  3. Pay IDR 500k by card
  4. Receive the e-VOA PDF — usually within hours, allow 2–3 days to be safe
  5. At immigration, scan and walk through the e-VOA lane

Apply 1–2 weeks before flying. Beware lookalike third-party sites charging double — the official portal is the imigrasi.go.id domain, nothing else.

VOA at the Airport: Price, Queues, Payment

Same visa, bought on landing at Denpasar or Jakarta: IDR 500k at the VOA counter before the immigration line (card usually accepted, cash always works). After a long-haul arrival the double queue costs 30–90 minutes — the e-VOA exists to delete exactly that. Labuan Bajo’s airport handles domestic arrivals; your visa moment happens at your international gateway.

Visa-Free Nationalities

ASEAN citizens (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, etc.) enter visa-free for 30 days — no fee, no application, but the stay is not extendable. Everyone else in the 90+ eligible list uses VOA/e-VOA; nationalities outside both lists need a consulate visa before travel — check the official list if unsure.

The 30-Day Math: Komodo + Bali on One VOA

Thirty days is generous: a 3D2N Komodo liveaboard, a week of Bali, and overland Flores still leaves margin. Count carefully though — arrival day counts as day one, and overstays cost IDR 1jt per day at departure. Planning longer? Extend or split the trip.

Extending: Can It Be Done in Labuan Bajo?

Yes — the VOA extends once (+30 days, another IDR 500k), and Labuan Bajo has an immigration office serving exactly this. Start the process ~7 days before your first 30 days expire; expect one or two office visits (biometrics). Extending in Bali works identically. ASEAN visa-free entries cannot extend — exit and re-enter instead.

Passport Validity & Other Trip-Killers

  • 6 months validity from arrival date — airlines enforce this at check-in, hard
  • One blank page for the stamp
  • Onward/return ticket — asked for at check-in more often than at immigration
  • Damaged passports (water, torn pages) get refused — renew first

None of this involves the park itself: Komodo National Park needs your passport only for quota registration, which we handle at booking. Full arrival logistics: getting to Labuan Bajo.

FAQ: Visa Quick Answers

Do I need a separate visa for Komodo or Flores?

No — one Indonesian visa covers the whole country. Komodo needs park permits, not visas: fees here.

Can I pay the VOA in USD or EUR?

Counters accept major currencies at unfavourable rates — pay IDR by card or cash and save the spread.

My cruise stops at Komodo — do I need a visa?

If you clear Indonesian immigration (you do), yes — your cruise line usually pre-arranges it; confirm before sailing.

Which comes first, visa or boat?

Boat and quota slot first (why timing matters), e-VOA second, flights third.
