Komodo National Park

Padar Island — Indonesia’s Most Photographed Viewpoint

Three crescent beaches — white, pink and black — wrap around volcanic ridges that lead to one of the most iconic summit panoramas on Earth.

About the Island

One Summit, Three Beaches, Endless Photographs

Padar is the third-largest island in Komodo National Park, and unlike its neighbors it has no dragons. What it has instead is a 200-meter summit hike that opens onto a vista of three crescent beaches in three different sand colors — white from calcium carbonate, pink from coral fragments, and black from the island’s volcanic origins.

The trail itself has been reinforced with stone steps and rest platforms, making the climb manageable for most travelers ages six through seventy. Sunrise is the magic hour — clearer color separation, cooler temperatures and quieter ridgelines before the day-trip boats arrive.

Why Padar

A Geological Rarity in the Flores Sea

Iconic Three-Bay Panorama

The summit reveals three crescent beaches in three distinct colors at once — a geological rarity worldwide.

White, Pink & Black Sand

Calcium carbonate, red-coral fragments and volcanic mineral sand — each bay tells a different geological story.

World-Class Photography

One of the most photographed landscapes in Indonesia — ideal for drone and golden-hour shots.

Reinforced Stone Trail

The path has been upgraded with steps, handrails and rest platforms for safer, more accessible ascents.

Sunrise Magic

Early starts (5:30 AM) reward you with sharper color contrast and an empty summit for that signature shot.

No Dragons Here

Padar is dragon-free — making it an easier add-on for nervous travelers and families with young children.
