The Two Things That Sell Out
Availability in Komodo is really two separate inventories:
- Boat space — cabins on shared phinisi, seats on speedboats, or whole private vessels.
- Park quota — Komodo Island entry permits, capped at 1,000 visitors per day.
In peak season the quota usually runs out before the boats do. A “sold out” date can often still be sailed by re-routing day one to Rinca Island (no Komodo-Island quota needed) and hitting Komodo Island on day two — a switch our captains make routinely. Season Snapshot
- April–June: the sweet spot — good weather, moderate demand, most boats bookable 1–2 weeks out.
- July–August: peak. Shared cabins and quota slots go 4–6 weeks ahead; private charters 6+ weeks.
- September–November: excellent conditions, demand eases — 1–2 weeks’ notice is usually enough.
- December–March: manta season, lightest demand. Same-week booking is realistic; weather holds are the main variable. See best time to visit.
