Every October, rate sheets start circulating around Labuan Bajo harbor: next season’s prices, boat by boat. We have watched that cycle since 2015, and we can read it fairly well by now — which is why guests keep asking about komodo trip cost 2027 a full year ahead. The short version: plan for increases of roughly 5–12% over 2026, driven by fuel, crew wages, and the new visitor quota. The long version, with numbers you can actually budget around, is below.
One honesty note before the tables. Nobody — including us — knows 2027 prices for certain. Most Labuan Bajo operators publish new rates between October and December for the following season, and a few reprice again before July. Everything below marked forecast is exactly that: our best estimate from a decade of running boats out of this harbor, not a published price list.
Quick Answer
We forecast a 2027 Komodo trip will cost roughly 5–12% more than 2026: shared 3D2N liveaboards from about $230–250 per person (2026: from $220), day trips from $125–135, and private charters from around $1,260 per day. Booking before operators reprice in Q4 2026 usually locks current rates.

The 2026 Baseline: What a Komodo Trip Costs Today
A forecast is only as good as its starting point, so here is what we actually charge and see across the harbor in 2026. These are genuine from-prices for the main trip formats — the full breakdown, including what each tier gets you, lives in our Komodo trip cost guide for 2026.
| Trip type | 2026 from-price | IDR ballpark |
|---|---|---|
| Day trip (shared speedboat) | from $120/person | ≈ IDR 1.9–2M |
| 2D1N shared liveaboard | from $180/person | ≈ IDR 2.9M |
| 3D2N shared phinisi | from $220/person | IDR 3.5–5.5M market rate |
| 4D3N shared liveaboard | from $350/person | ≈ IDR 5.7M |
| 5D4N liveaboard | from $750/person | ≈ IDR 12M |
| 6D5N–7D6N expedition | from $900–1,500/person | ≈ IDR 14.5–24M |
| Private charter (whole boat, 6–10 guests) | from $1,200/day | ≈ IDR 19.5M/day |
On top of the boat price, foreigners pay national park fees per day: entry IDR 250,000 (about $16), a ranger trekking fee of IDR 200,000 per group of up to five (IDR 150,000 on Padar), IDR 25,000 harbor fee, and an IDR 25,000 surcharge per dive. In practice we tell guests to budget $40–50 per person in fees for a 3D2N itinerary. Those fees are set by the government, in rupiah, and they matter for 2027 — more on that below.
What Pushes Boat Prices Up Every Season
Komodo boat pricing is not mysterious. Three costs dominate an operator’s ledger, and all three have been moving in one direction.
1. Fuel
A 3D2N loop through the park covers roughly 120–150 nautical miles, and non-subsidized diesel in Labuan Bajo has traded between about IDR 13,000 and 15,500 per liter over the past two seasons. Captain Yusuf logs burn on every crossing; when diesel jumps 10%, a shared-cabin price follows within a season.
2. Crew wages
East Nusa Tenggara’s minimum wage has been rising in the mid-to-high single digits most years, and experienced skippers, licensed park guides, and onboard chefs earn well above it because good crews are scarce. We will not staff a boat below a safe, fair wage — and neither will any operator you should sail with.
3. Quota scarcity
Since April 2026, Komodo and Padar islands run a 1,000-visitor daily cap booked through the SiOra reservation system. When July and August slots sell out weeks ahead, peak-date pricing hardens. Scarcity is the newest driver, and in our view the strongest one heading into 2027.
There is a fourth, less predictable factor: park fees themselves. The IDR 250,000 daily entry fee has held steady recently, but Indonesian conservation fees historically move in occasional jumps rather than smooth increments — proposals for higher Komodo fees have surfaced before. We suggest planning a fee buffer of IDR 300,000 per day for 2027 rather than assuming today’s number. That is a planning assumption, not an announcement.
Komodo Trip Cost 2027: Forecast by Trip Type
Putting those drivers together — diesel, wages, quota pressure, plus a fee buffer — here is our working forecast. Read every number in the right-hand columns as an estimate, not a quote.
| Trip type | 2026 from-price | 2027 forecast (from) | Implied change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Day trip (shared speedboat) | $120 | $125–135 | +4–12% |
| 2D1N shared | $180 | $190–200 | +6–11% |
| 3D2N shared phinisi | $220 | $230–250 | +5–14% |
| 4D3N shared | $350 | $370–395 | +6–13% |
| 5D4N liveaboard | $750 | $790–840 | +5–12% |
| 6D5N–7D6N expedition | $900–1,500 | $950–1,650 | +6–10% |
| Private charter, per day | $1,200 | $1,260–1,350 | +5–13% |
Two patterns inside those ranges. First, expect the upper end on peak dates: late June through August and the December–January holiday window, when the SiOra cap bites hardest. Second, expect the lower end — sometimes flat 2026 pricing — on shoulder and low-season departures, where boats compete to fill cabins. The forecast spread is really a seasonality spread.
What could break the forecast upward? A jump in park fees, a sharp diesel spike, or a tighter quota. Downward? A visibly soft season: 2026 has more boats registered in Labuan Bajo than any year we can remember, and if supply outruns demand, shared-cabin rates stall even while charter rates hold.
How to Lock In 2026 Rates for a 2027 Sailing
Book before the rate sheets flip. Most operators, us included, honor the current season’s price for any 2027 departure confirmed with a deposit before new rates publish — typically October to December 2026. A deposit placed in September 2026 for a July 2027 phinisi cabin is the single most reliable way to pay 2026 money for a 2027 trip, and it also gets you into the SiOra quota queue early.
Aim for low season. January and February bring the west monsoon — expect afternoon rain, a rolling swell on the outer crossings, and the lowest prices of the year, often 15–25% under peak for the identical boat. If cost matters more than calm seas, that is your window; our Komodo budget trip guide covers the $90–120 open-deck day boats and cheapest cabin classes in detail.
Fill a private boat. Charter math ages well: a boat from $1,200 per day split among eight friends is $150 per person per day with the whole deck to yourselves. Charter from-prices have historically moved more slowly than per-cabin rates, because the operator carries no fill risk.
Compare the rupiah price. If you hold IDR or can pay by Indonesian transfer, ask for the domestic rate card — our harga trip Komodo page lists 2026 packages from Rp1,9jt in rupiah. Domestic pricing sometimes lags USD repricing by a season.

Almost every cost on a Komodo boat is paid in rupiah — diesel, wages, provisioning at Labuan Bajo’s morning market, park fees. Trips, however, are quoted to international guests in US dollars. That mismatch matters. With the rupiah trading in the IDR 16,000s per dollar through 2026, a 10% rise in an operator’s IDR costs can translate to a smaller USD increase if the rupiah stays soft, or a larger one if it strengthens.
Practical takeaways: treat USD quotes as the number that can drift between inquiry and deposit, and fix it in writing when you confirm. Park fees are set in rupiah, so the familiar “$16 entry” figure will move with the exchange rate even if the IDR 250,000 fee itself does not. And if a 2027 quote arrives in both currencies, compare them at the day’s mid-market rate before choosing which to pay — the spread occasionally exceeds 5%, which on a $750 five-day liveaboard is real money.
We will update this forecast when the first 2027 rate sheets circulate in Q4 2026. Until then: the baseline is real, the drivers are real, and the ranges above are the honest width of what we do not yet know.
