OVERVIEW

Why 4 Days is the Perfect Duration

While 2-3 day trips cover the famous highlights, a 4-day Komodo voyage unlocks the complete archipelago experience. The extra time allows you to visit remote islands and pristine reefs that shorter itineraries cannot reach, spend more time at each destination without watching the clock, and experience the rhythms of life aboard a traditional sailing vessel — from predawn coffee as the anchor rises to stargazing on the sun deck after dinner.

The 4D3N format is particularly popular with snorkel and dive enthusiasts who want multiple sessions at different sites, photographers who need time to capture the perfect light at each location, and anyone who values the journey as much as the destination. Three nights aboard gives you the full liveaboard experience: falling asleep to the gentle rocking of the boat, waking to a new island view each morning, and connecting with the crew and fellow travelers over shared meals and adventures.

This itinerary also includes destinations like Kanawa Island, Taka Makassar, and the Kalong bat colony that 2-3 day trips typically skip. These lesser-known stops are often the most memorable — the pristine reef at Kanawa, the surreal sandbar at Taka Makassar, and the spectacle of thousands of flying foxes darkening the sunset sky at Kalong are experiences that make the extra day absolutely worthwhile.

14:00 — Hike the short but steep trail to Kelor Island’s summit for panoramic views of the surrounding islands. Then snorkel the excellent house reef and relax on the white sand beach. First sunset from the boat — welcome cocktail served on the sun deck.

Day 2: Padar Island → Pink Beach → Taka Makassar

05:00 — Early departure for Padar Island. Pre-dawn hike to the famous viewpoint to watch sunrise illuminate the three-colored bays below. One of the most spectacular sunrise views in Southeast Asia.

How much does a 4-day Komodo trip cost?
A 4-day 3-night Komodo trip ranges from $350-500 per person for shared/group tours to $2,000-6,000 for private charter options depending on the vessel category. Prices include accommodation, all meals, snorkeling equipment, national park fees, guide services, and transfers. Luxury phinisi options with premium service are available at higher price points.
What is included in the 4D3N package?

Is the 4-day trip better than 3 days?
The extra day significantly enhances the experience. You visit additional destinations (Kanawa Island, Taka Makassar, Kalong bat colony), have more snorkeling time, enjoy a more relaxed pace, and get a deeper immersion in the liveaboard lifestyle. If your schedule allows, 4 days is our recommended duration for the most satisfying Komodo experience.
What type of boat is used for 4-day trips?
Our 4-day trips use traditional phinisi sailing vessels with comfortable cabins, en-suite or shared bathrooms, a dining area, and a spacious sun deck. Private charter options range from intimate 2-cabin boats to large 6-cabin vessels. All boats carry proper safety equipment and are maintained to high standards.
Can the itinerary be modified?
Private charter itineraries can be fully customized based on your interests, weather conditions, and group preferences. Want more snorkeling? Add extra sites. Interested in fishing? We can include it. Need a more relaxed pace? We adjust accordingly. Group/shared tours follow the published itinerary with minor adjustments for weather.
What should I pack for a 4-day Komodo trip?
Pack light: swimwear, light clothing, reef-safe sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, comfortable walking shoes for treks, a light jacket for evening boat rides, a camera, and personal toiletries. We provide towels, snorkeling gear, and drinking water. A small daypack for island treks and a waterproof phone case are highly recommended.
