About the Island
The Dragon Capital of Komodo
Rinca is the second-largest island in Komodo National Park — 198 square kilometers of open savannah, dry forest and coastal mangrove just 90 minutes by speedboat from Labuan Bajo. With around 1,300 Komodo dragons on a single island, Rinca holds the highest dragon density anywhere in the park.The terrain opens up far further than Komodo Island’s denser forest cover, giving longer sightlines and frequent encounters from the moment your trek begins. The redesigned Loh Buaya visitor center (completed in 2023) adds elevated boardwalks, interpretive panels and shaded rest stops — making the experience more accessible without compromising the wildlife itself.

1.5 km loop on boardwalks past prime basking areas — the easiest way to meet the dragons.

3 km route across savannah grassland to a hillside viewpoint above Loh Buaya.
