Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be a certified diver to join a Komodo liveaboard?

No. Our liveaboard trips welcome both certified divers and non-divers. Non-divers enjoy world-class snorkeling, island treks, kayaking, and all surface activities. Certified divers get 2–3 dives per day included. We require minimum Open Water certification (PADI, SSI, or NAUI) for diving. Advanced Open Water is recommended for current-heavy sites like Batu Bolong and Castle Rock.

What is the best time of year for a Komodo liveaboard trip?

The best time for a liveaboard Komodo trip is April to November, when seas are calmer and visibility reaches 20–40 meters. Peak season is July to August with optimal conditions. Manta ray season peaks from December to March in Central Komodo. We operate year-round and advise on the best timing for your specific interests, whether mantas, reef sharks, whale sharks, or the elusive Mola mola sunfish.

What type of vessel do you use for Komodo liveaboards?

We sail traditional Indonesian phinisi wooden yachts, reimagined for modern luxury. Our fleet includes vessels accommodating 8–16 guests in private en-suite cabins with air conditioning. Each yacht features a sun deck, indoor dining saloon, dive deck with tank storage, freshwater shower station, and a generator running 24 hours for charging and lighting.

How do I get to Labuan Bajo for the liveaboard departure?

Labuan Bajo is served by Komodo Airport (IATA: LBJ) with daily direct flights from Bali Denpasar (1 hour) and Jakarta (2.5 hours). Airlines include Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air, and TransNusa. We recommend arriving the evening before departure. Complimentary airport transfers are included in every package, and we can arrange a pre-trip hotel in Labuan Bajo.

Is a luxury Komodo liveaboard suitable for families with children?

Yes. We welcome families with children aged 8 and above. Children love the dragon treks, snorkeling with sea turtles, and sleeping under the stars on the sundeck. Our crew are experienced with family groups. Children under 14 can snorkel at all sites but cannot dive. We provide junior snorkeling equipment and life jackets. Private charter bookings are especially popular for families wanting the entire vessel.

Can I combine a Komodo liveaboard with a Bali holiday?

Absolutely. Many of our guests fly Bali to Labuan Bajo for the liveaboard, then return to Bali for a beach extension. We offer combined Bali plus Komodo packages including domestic flights, airport transfers, and hotel arrangements in both destinations. The Bali to Labuan Bajo flight takes just 1 hour.

What is the cancellation policy for Komodo liveaboard bookings?

We offer free cancellation up to 60 days before departure with a full refund. Between 30–60 days, a 50% deposit is retained. Within 30 days, the full fare is non-refundable. We strongly recommend travel insurance that covers trip cancellation. Force majeure events such as volcanic eruptions or government travel restrictions are handled on a case-by-case basis with maximum flexibility.
