Komodo Trip Base: Labuan Bajo — Gateway to Komodo National Park
Labuan Bajo is the gateway town to Komodo National Park, located on the western tip of Flores Island in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). This rapidly growing harbour town serves as the departure point for all Komodo sailing trips, liveaboard voyages, and diving expeditions. With daily flights from Bali, a growing selection of hotels and restaurants, and direct harbour access to Komodo Trip vessels, Labuan Bajo combines adventure logistics with increasingly sophisticated hospitality.
GETTING HERE
How to Reach Labuan Bajo
By Air (Recommended)
Komodo Airport (LBJ) receives multiple daily flights from Bali/Denpasar (1 hour), Jakarta (2.5 hours direct, or via Surabaya/Bali), and Surabaya (1.5 hours). Airlines operating the Bali-Labuan Bajo route include Citilink, Lion Air, Nam Air, and Garuda Indonesia. Flight prices range from IDR 500,000-1,500,000 one-way depending on season and booking timing. The airport is just 5 minutes from the town centre and harbour.
By Sea
The ASDP ferry connects Labuan Bajo to Sape (Sumbawa) daily — a 6-hour crossing used by budget travellers overland from Lombok or Sumbawa. Conditions can be rough in wet season. Luxury sailing trips from Lombok to Komodo (via Komodo Trip) offer a far more comfortable multi-day alternative.
By Land
Flores Island’s Trans-Flores Highway connects Labuan Bajo to Ruteng, Bajawa, Ende, and Maumere. The drive from Ende takes approximately 10 hours through spectacular mountain scenery. Road conditions vary seasonally.
