Komodo Day Trip Itinerary

05:30 — Hotel Pickup & Harbour Departure

Our team collects you from your Labuan Bajo hotel and transfers you to the harbour. Board your speedboat, meet your crew and guide, receive a safety briefing and day overview. Fresh coffee, tea, and light snacks are available as we depart into the pre-dawn waters.

06:30 — Padar Island Sunrise Hike

Arrive at Padar Island as the sun rises over the volcanic ridges. The 30-45 minute hike to the summit rewards you with Komodo’s most iconic panorama — three crescent bays of different coloured water framed by dramatic ridgelines. Photography time at the summit before descending for a refreshing beach swim.

09:00 — Komodo Dragon Trek (Rinca Island)

Transfer to Rinca Island for a guided trek with licensed park rangers. The short-to-medium trek (45-90 minutes) brings you face-to-face with Komodo dragons in their natural habitat, along with water buffalo, deer, monkeys, and raptors. Rinca offers the highest density of dragon encounters and is closer to Labuan Bajo than Komodo Island.

11:30 — Pink Beach & Snorkelling

Arrive at Pink Beach — one of only seven pink sand beaches on Earth. Walk the rare coral-coloured sand, then snorkel the pristine house reef directly from shore. Vibrant corals, tropical fish, sea turtles, and blue-spotted rays are regularly sighted in crystal-clear water.

12:30 — Lunch Aboard

Freshly prepared Indonesian lunch served aboard the speedboat or at a calm anchorage. Typical menu includes grilled fish, rice, vegetables, sambal, fresh fruit, and cold beverages.

13:30 — Additional Snorkelling Sites

Visit 1-2 additional snorkelling locations based on conditions — possibilities include Taka Makassar sandbar, Kanawa Island reef, or Bidadari Island. Our crew selects sites based on current, visibility, and marine activity for the best possible encounters.

15:30 — Return to Labuan Bajo

Scenic speedboat return to Labuan Bajo harbour, arriving approximately 5:00 PM. Transfer back to your hotel with incredible memories from a full day in Komodo National Park.

Who Is This Trip For?

Komodo day trips are ideal for travellers with limited time in Labuan Bajo (transit visitors, cruise passengers, business travellers adding a day of adventure), those who prefer sleeping on land rather than boats, budget-conscious travellers seeking maximum highlights per dollar, and anyone wanting a taste of Komodo before committing to a multi-day voyage.

Is a day trip enough to see Komodo?

A day trip covers the main highlights — Padar viewpoint, dragon encounter, Pink Beach, and snorkelling. However, you will miss Manta Point (typically requires multi-day trips to reach), sunset and sunrise sailing experiences, and the relaxed pace of a liveaboard. For most first-time visitors, we recommend at least a 2-day/1-night trip for the complete experience.

What time does the Komodo day trip depart?

Shared day trips depart at 05:30 AM from Labuan Bajo harbour with hotel pickup starting around 05:00 AM. Early departure is essential to reach Padar Island for sunrise and maximise time in the park. Private charters can adjust departure times.

Can I add diving to a day trip?

Diving can be added to private charter day trips as a supplement. Shared day trips follow a fixed snorkelling-based itinerary. For dedicated diving, we recommend our multi-day diving expedition packages.

Do children pay full price?

Children aged 3-11 receive discounted rates on shared day trips. Children under 3 travel free. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Life jackets are provided in all sizes.

What happens if weather is bad?

Our team monitors weather daily. If conditions are unsafe, we offer free rebooking to an alternative date. For moderate conditions, we adjust the itinerary to visit sheltered sites while maintaining safety. Your safety always comes first.
