The journey requires one international connection through Bali (DPS) and then a 1-hour domestic flight to Labuan Bajo (LBJ). How to Fly from the USA to Komodo
For most U.S. travelers, the smoothest route is USA → Bali (DPS) → Labuan Bajo (LBJ). Some routings transit through Singapore (SIN), Kuala Lumpur (KUL), or Doha (DOH) before reaching Bali. Direct flights to Labuan Bajo from outside Indonesia do not exist.
- USA → Bali (DPS): USD 900–2,000 roundtrip economy. Carriers include Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, EVA Air, Qatar Airways, Korean Air, ANA. Total 22–28 hours with 1 stop.
- Bali → Labuan Bajo (LBJ): USD 80–160 one-way. Carriers: Garuda Indonesia, Citilink, Wings Air, Batik Air. 1 hour 20 minutes, 6+ daily flights.
- Best US departure cities for fares: Los Angeles (LAX), San Francisco (SFO), Seattle (SEA). East Coast adds USD 200–500 to roundtrip.
Indonesia Visa-on-Arrival for US Passport Holders
US citizens receive a 30-day Visa on Arrival (VOA) at Bali (DPS) or Jakarta (CGK) for USD 35. Apply for e-VOA online at evisa.imigrasi.go.id 3–14 days before departure to skip queues. Extendable once for another 30 days. Passport must be valid for 6+ months from arrival date with 2+ blank pages.

Time Difference + Jet Lag
Indonesia (WITA, GMT+8) is 15 hours ahead of New York (EST/EDT) and 12 hours ahead of Los Angeles (PST/PDT). To minimize jet lag: book a Bali arrival in the late afternoon, sleep on local time night 1, stay 2 nights in Bali before flying to Labuan Bajo. Your Komodo boat boards the next morning fresh.
